Thunder 2011 WLA Draft Report
By Norrin Rad

For Immediate Release

Langley Thunder added some great prospects to strengthen their team.

In the first round Langley chose highly sought after goaltender Brodie Macdonald.  Brodie stands 6’7” tall, which covers a lot of net.  “I’m so excited to be part of the Thunder Family” Brodie tells from Philadelphia where he toils for the NLL Philadelphia Wings.  Langley spokesperson said, “He (Brodie) is the goaltender we wanted, we knew we were going to draft a goalie, and we wanted to get the right one, not just anyone.  We believe Brodie is the one.”

2nd Round saw Langley select all around player and leader Jarrett Toll>  Jarrett graduates as the BC Jr A League’s John Urban Award Winner (Top Graduating Player), and captain of NW Jr A team.  A native of Maple Ridge and arguably the best player to come from that area of Lower Mainland.  Jarrett played five years in the WHL (Western Hockey League) for the Tri-City Americans and presently goes to school at University of Alberta and plays for the NLL’s Edmonton Rush.

Langley selected two aggressive lacrosse players in the 3rd round.  Nik Bilic from Coquitlam Jr A via Burnaby Jr A & Rob Danilkiewicz from New Westminster.  Both these players played important roles representing their teams in the 2010 Minto Cup.

The next two rounds saw Langley Select scoring.  Darcy Cummings and Simon Giourmetakis.  Darcy is a crafty Lefty Goal-scorer.  Simon is a big player that can do it all in lacrosse.  Hailing from Alberta discouraged some teams from selecting him higher.  He presently goes to school at Canisius College in New York.

Other selections include Nick Benevoli - Burnaby Jr A, Curtis McIntosh – Kamloops Jr B Rattlers, Chase Porter – Langley Jr A, Curtis Sim – PoCo Jr A, Braidy Webb – Vernon Jr B Vipers, and Kyle Kari – Burnaby Jr A.
